To celebrate Foster’s Fridays, we’re taking a look back at some of the Aussie characters we miss on telly #Foster’sFridays
1. Kath & Kim
We miss Melbourne-based fitness fanatic Kath Day-Knight and her self-absorbed daughter Kim Craig so much. Kim could never understand why she couldn’t lose weight despite eating enough food to feed a small country. Who could forget poor Sharon who lives next door and could never get a date? Or even better Kath’s metrosexual husband Kel? They’ve had a heap of guest stars on the show aswell with appearances from Michael Bublé, Eric Bana and even Kylie !
2. Helen Daniels
We never thought she’d be killed off on Ramsay Street but it happened. She starred in “Neighbours” since the very start of the soap, appearing in 1,545 episodes. During her time on the show, Helen was charged with drink-driving, she had an affair with her daughter’s fiancé, was kidnapped, told her daughter she was adopted and was evicted. She also got married twice after discovering her husband Michael Daniels was a bigamist. While watching a 10 year old video of Scott & Charlene’s wedding, she fell asleep and died.
3. Bobby Simpson
Her storylines focussed on her finding her biological parents. She was born in Summer Bay as the illegitimate daughter of Morag and Donald Fisher. When she was 15, her adopted mother Doris died. Alf Stewart felt sorry for her and gave her a job at his shop, letting her live behind his boatshed. She is killed during a boat ride when the boat collides into a large piece of driftwood in the water and overturns. She is found but is brain dead and they make a decision to turn off her life support machine.
4. Shane Parrish
They were loves young dream in “Home and Away” – Angel and Shane Parrish (remember those Dieter Brummer posters splashed all over your bedroom walls from Smash Hits magazine?). At one point, Angel is paralyzed after being hit by Alf Stewart’s car as she crosses the road then soon after they get married, Shane is knocked off his motorbike and loses his spleen. Shane becomes unwell on their 1st anniversary, collapses and dies from septicaemia.
5. Shannon Reed
Despite Shannon trying to split up one of our favourite soap couples, (Shane and Angel above) by pretending she was having an affair with Shane, we miss Shannon and her fiery red hair. Most of us dyed our hair to look like her in the 1990’s. She arrived in Summer Bay as one of Michael and Pippa’s foster children and never seemed to get changed out of that school uniform. She left Summer Bay in 1997 after Shannon announced she was bisexual – presumably heading off to a new life in Yabbie Creek!
