Five people have been reported dead in a North German town, while two individuals have been detained, including the suspected shooter, according to police.
A police spokesperson said that the role of the second person detained remains unclear at present, but there are no other suspects at large. The motive for this incident, which took place in Stade, near the port city of Hamburg, was not immediately clear, according to another police spokesperson.
It is also unclear regarding the amount of people injured in this attack, but all five people reported to have been killed were adults.
This incident had taken place at a youth welfare facility in Stade, a population of nearly 50,000 people, located west of Hamburg.
According to reports in The Irish Times, video footage of this shooting showed a huge police presence, as well as other emergency service personnel and several ambulances along the street.
Residents have since been warned to steer clear of the area following this incident.
While incidents of mass shootings have been scarce in Germany, a number of isolated incidents have taken place. In 2023, six people were shot dead in Hamburg by a gunman, who then killed himself at a Jehovah's Witness worship hall.
In 2016, at least nine people were murdered in Munich by an 18 year old German-Iranian man who was obsessed with mass killings.
