A national emergency has been declared across Spain after 2 of the larger wildfires merged just outside of Madrid resulting in "the worst wildfire in the regions history,", according to Isabel Díaz Ayuso, Madrid's regional leader.
Díaz Ayuso described the blaze as "beyond [Spain's] capability to extinguish."
In the South-West of France authorities have ordered a total evacuation of the Cap Ferret peninsula and around Bordeaux.
The wildfire in that area has burned through more than 19,000 hectares of forest already and shows no sign of slowing down.
Sebastein Lecornu, the French Prime Minister said that over 141,000 people from the affected regions had been evacuated. The French army have been mobilised to help extinguish the blaze.
Both of the affected countries have asked for aid from the European Union. Hundreds of firefighters have been deployed with countries such as Sweden, Portugal, Italy and Greece contributing.
