Netflix has confirmed that a reboot of the beloved romantic comedy 13 Going on 30 is officially in the works, with original star Jennifer Garner returning to the franchise in a new role.
The 2004 film, which became a favourite among romcom fans, starred Jennifer Garner as Jenna Rink, a teenager who wakes up as her 30-year-old self after making a birthday wish. Now, more than two decades later, the story is being reimagined for a new generation.

The reboot will star Emily Bader, who recently appeared in People We Meet on Vacation, alongside Logan Lerman, known for Only Murders in the Building.
They will be joined by an ensemble cast including Jessica Alba, Taylor Ortega and Tim Meadows.

While Jennifer Garner will not reprise her role as Jenna, she has given the project her backing by signing on as an executive producer.
Director Brett Haley paid tribute to the original film, describing it as a classic that has stood the test of time.
“13 Going on 30 is one of those rare, perfect films,” he said.
“Funny, emotional, deeply human, with unforgettable performances from Jennifer Garner, Mark Ruffalo, and Judy Greer.”

He added: “I’m a longtime fan, so stepping into this reimagining comes with tremendous responsibility. Jennifer Garner being on board as an executive producer, after playing such a big part of what made the original special, is especially meaningful.”
The reboot also reunites Haley with Emily Bader following their work together on People We Meet on Vacation, which reached Netflix's Top 10 films list in 92 countries earlier this year.

Speaking about working with his new leading stars, the director said: “I couldn't be more excited to reunite with Emily. She and the amazingly talented Logan Lerman are a magical pairing.”
He continued: “I feel incredibly lucky to be trusted with something that means so much to so many people.”
Although Netflix has yet to announce an official release date, production is already underway.
The original 13 Going on 30 follows 13-year-old Jenna Rink, who wishes to be "thirty, flirty and thriving" after a disastrous birthday party.
She suddenly wakes up as her 30-year-old self, living what appears to be the perfect life as a successful magazine editor. However, Jenna soon discovers that growing up isn't everything she imagined, prompting her to reconnect with the people who mattered most.
The new version is expected to stream exclusively on Netflix once filming is complete.
