Perez Hilton's family have confirmed that he is able to communicate after being hospitalised.

US blogger Perez Hilton was hospitalised after livestreaming self-harm on TikTok.

According to the BBC, Hilton is recovering in the hospital after members of the public reported that he had appeared to be self-harming on a live stream.

Emergency services were called to his home on Tuesday following reports from concerned viewers.

In a recent statement from Perez's family, they said via RTE, "We have also been able to confirm that Perez is able to communicate, which has given our family hope. We respectfully ask for your continued prayers, understanding, and grace as Perez continues to recover."

"We will share additional updates as we receive confirmed information and are able to do so. For now, we're taking things one step at a time and keeping our focus where it belongs, on Perez and his recovery. Your compassionate humanity during this heartbreaking time has meant more than words can express. This has been incredibly difficult and emotional for us, made even harder because very little information has been made available to our family. While we continue to wait for further updates, we remain hopeful," they continued.

According to police, Hilton, whose real name is Mario Lavandeira, was home alone at the time of the livestream, and his TikTok account was suspended shortly afterwards.

The Miami sheriff's office did not name Hilton but confirmed that they had attended to reports of a man harming himself, in a statement issued to outlets including the LA Times and Rolling Stone.

In a recent statement, the police said via reports, "In many incidents involving a person experiencing a mental health crisis or actively harming themselves, deputies prioritise de-escalation by creating time, distance and opportunities for communication. Unless there is an immediate threat to others, slowing the situation and utilizing crisis intervention techniques can reduce the likelihood of a suicide-by-cop encounter and minimise the risk of injury to the individual, deputies and the public."

The celebrity blogger's managers told Variety that they were aware of what was circulating online about their client, Perez Hilton.

"At this time, we have not been able to make direct contact with him, despite our ongoing efforts to reach him," they continued. "Our primary concern is Perez's health and well-being, as well as the well-being of his family," they said.
