Ireland’s Classic Hits Radio is supporting the Amhrán na Laoch songwriting competition as part of Irish Music Month 2026.
Amhrán na Laoch gives Irish artists, bands and songwriters the chance to submit an original song written in Irish.
The competition has been announced by Hot Press and the Independent Broadcasters of Ireland (IBI), with support from An Post and Coimisiún na Meán.
Ireland’s Classic Hits Radio is one of 22 independent radio stations across the country supporting the competition as part of Irish Music Month.

At least 50% of each song submitted must be in Irish, and entries must be original work by the songwriter, artist or band.
Those hoping to enter must record their song or a demo and submit it through the Amhrán na Laoch entry form on the Hot Press website.
The closing date for entries is Friday, September 18, 2026.
There is a number of prizes up for grabs for the winning entry, including €2,500 in prize money, airplay support across the 22 participating independent radio stations and coverage from Hot Press.
The winner will also receive music industry mentoring and support, along with mixing, mastering and the release of their single through the Gael Linn label.
The competition was previously won by Belfast artist Huartan with the song Bean Udaí Thall. Following the win, Huartan went on to receive further recognition, including the Live Act of the Year Award at the NI Music Prize and the BBC Introducing Northern Irish Artist of the Year Award in 2025.
Irish Music Month was launched in 2021 by Hot Press and the IBI and takes place across September and October.
