Rail services linking Dublin Heuston with Cork, Kerry and Limerick have been severely disrupted following a tragic incident on the railway line.
Iarnród Éireann has confirmed that the route between Thurles and Limerick Junction has been closed while emergency services attend the scene. The disruption is expected to continue throughout the morning, with passengers warned of significant delays.
In a statement, Iarnród Éireann said: “Customers are advised there is major disruption to rail services in both directions between Heuston and Cork / Kerry / Limerick until further notice.”
The operator added: “This is due to a tragic incident on the line between Thurles and Limerick Junction, currently being attended by emergency services. The line is closed as a result until further notice.”
Bus transfers are being arranged for passengers affected by the suspension, with replacement services operating between Thurles and Limerick Junction.
Iarnród Éireann said: “Significant disruption is expected throughout the morning, and we are working to arrange bus transfers for affected services.”
The company also apologised to passengers for the disruption and advised those travelling on the affected routes to expect delays and changes to their journeys.
All rail services between Thurles and Limerick Junction remain suspended until further notice as emergency services continue to deal with the incident.
