Two Ed Sheeran shows at the Gillette Stadium in Foxborough, Massachusetts were called off due to "severe weather warnings".
The first of these shows which was due to take place last night, with the second scheduled for tonight, were cancelled due to the "safety of fans, staff and everyone involved".
This was confirmed by the singer's tour promoter, Messina Touring, who released the following statement.
"Due to the severe weather warnings in place in Boston and New England throughout the weekend and following consultation with local officials, we have made the difficult decision to cancel the Ed Sheeran concerts at Gillette Stadium", they said. "The decision was made with the safety of fans, staff and everyone involved in the shows as the top priority". (All quotes according to RTÉ).
The promoter also said that ticket holders can get their refunds at their point of purchase, or can be issued automatically if these tickets were bought via Ticketmaster.
This comes amid reports that ticket prices for Ed Sheeran's shows have plummeted since Macklemore's removal from the US leg of his Loop Tour following his comments, publicly supporting Palestine.
In the last week, ticket sales have dropped 11%, with the biggest nose dives reported in Philadelphia where Sheeran had recently performed. It was also reported that resale ticket prices fell by 24% for the same period, dropping from $126 to $96.
TicketData also revealed that prices were down 25% in that week.
Since Macklemore's removal from the tour, a number of other support acts pulled out of Sheeran's US Tour, including Dublin singer, Aaron Rowe and Irish band, Beoga, who were two of five acts that withdrew from the shows overall, in support of Macklemore.
Ed Sheeran had said that the decision to remove Macklemore was made by the tour promoter, after venues had seemed to indicate that they would not facilitate for these shows to go ahead if the Thrift Shop singer was on the bill.
Macklemore has said that he will donate his $1 million net earnings to charities supporting Palestinian people, and hopes that this does not end his friendship with Sheeran. More on this story here.
