This weekend, more than 100,000 music lovers are set to travel to Cork City for the Guinness Cork Jazz Festival.

The festival, which is in its 48th year, will feature over 500 musicians from Ireland and worldwide, and will run over the weekend until Bank Holiday Monday, 26 October, having kicked off on Thursday (October 22).

Popular headline acts include Luke Thomas and the Swing Cats, who will perform at the festival at the Everyman Theatre today (24 October). Other popular festival acts also include TBL8 Brass, who first played here in 2019.

The Guinness Cork Jazz Festival is expected to bring in €45 million to the city's economy. It was first established by Jim Mountjoy in the Metropole Hotel back in 1978.

Speaking to RTÉ, Festival Chairperson said that this festival is all about music, but also means so much to many local businesses working in Cork.

"There's a huge spend over the weekend. It's estimated to be around 40 million, which we love", she said. "And to just bring so many visitors into the city, we get to showcase Cork over the weekend".

Elsewhere, approximately, 58,000 passengers are expected to travel via Cork Airport for over this Bank Holiday weekend, with tens of thousands expected to attend the Cork Jazz Festival, with the airport's Managing Director, Niall McCarthy stating that the festival is a key priority.

He called this weekend "is one of the highlights of the year for us all here at the airport". (All quotes according to RTÉ).

Along with this, the free Guinness music trail will also provide events to as many as 70 venues across the city.
