Elliot English, one of the two children injured in the horrific arson attack at his home in Waterford last month, has died in hospital.

Eliot, who was aged six, died at Children's Health Ireland at Crumlin, following an arson attack which claimed the lives of his parents, Kim and Philip English, along with his brothers Callum, 12, and Jayden, 9. The other child, remains in hospital, having been critically injured following the attack.

This attack took place at the family home in Birchwood estate on October 13.

Last month, the funeral masses of the English family members took place at Waterford city's Sacred Heart Church, with Parish Priest, Fr Gerry Chestnut leading the congregation.

It was also confirmed during that same month that four people were arrested in connection with the arson attack, but were all later released without charge.

Two other people, 31 year old Jessica Dalton, and 21 year old Cian Stacey, who were also arrested in connection with the attack, appeared before Waterford District Court. They were remanded in custody, prior to their court appearance on November 17 via video link. More on this here.

"profound sadness"

Since then, the English family have released a statement, confirming the passing of six year old Eliot with "profound sadness".

"This comes following the tragic events in Birchwood earlier this month, in which Elliot's mother, Kim, his father, Philip, and his two brothers, Jaden and Callum, tragically lost their lives", the statement read, per RTÉ. "The family has endured an unimaginable loss, and this latest bereavement has left relatives, neighbours and friends facing an overwhelming period of grief".

They added: "At this incredibly difficult time, the family respectfully asks members of the media to allow them, along with their neighbours and friends, the time, space and privacy to come to terms with this devastating tragedy".

The family went on to say that their thoughts are with the child who remains in hospital, asking that he be "kept in everyone's thoughts and prayers".

They have also asked for privacy at this difficult time.

"The family appreciates that there will be considerable public interest and that many people will wish to express their sympathy and support. However, we ask that their privacy, dignity and right to grieve be respected", they said.

"The English family would like to thank everyone who has shown kindness, compassion and support during what has been an incomprehensibly difficult time.

"Please allow the family the privacy and respect they so desperately need at this time", the added.
