The Bear star Jeremy Allen White has suggested that the upcoming fifth season of the hit series could mark the end of the show, revealing that the fourth season was originally intended to be the final chapter.
White, who plays the lead role of Carmy, a chef tasked with reinventing his family’s business, has starred in all four seasons of the critically acclaimed Disney+ series. The role has propelled him to international stardom, earning him three Golden Globe Awards and two Emmys along the way.
After the emotional finale of Season 4 — in which Carmy walks away from the restaurant he has poured his heart and soul into — White was asked during an appearance on The Hollywood Reporter’s Awards Chatter podcast whether the recently announced Season 5 will be the show’s last.
“The fourth season was going to be the last,” he replied. “Chris [Storer, creator and co-showrunner] called me on Christmas Eve last year and was like, ‘We’re gonna do some more.’ And, I don’t know, that could happen again around this holiday time. There’s no plans for it to be the last.”
White went on to explain that while there are no firm plans beyond Season 5, nothing has been ruled out either. “There’s no plans right now for us to do more. I think it’s just all dependent on what Chris wants to do. But if it was up to me? I just feel so lucky to read Chris’ words, and also to work with these actors who’ve become some of my best friends, so I’d do it for a very long time.”
Since its debut, The Bear has won acclaim for its visceral portrayal of kitchen life, nuanced character work, and high-pressure storytelling, making it one of the standout drama series of recent years. For many fans, the question of whether Season 5 will be the final chapter is a bittersweet one — offering the promise of more compelling narrative while also marking the potential close of a defining era for Carmy and the rest of the cast.
