Two gardaí have been hospitalised following a vehicular pursuit in Dundalk.

At approximately 4am on Sunday morning, gardaí noticed a vehicle driving in an erratic fashion on Dundalk's Park Street.

When the driver refused to come to a stop, the gardaí engaged in a pursuit.

The pursuit lasted for approximately 30 minutes before the pursued vehicle collided with a garda car at the Redcow roundabout in Dundalk.

Two gardaí suffered injuries from the impact and were brought to Our Lady of Lourdes hospital in Drogheda for treatment.

A man in his 20s was arrested and detained at Dundalk Garda station.

The passengers of the vehicle - a male and two females – were also taken to hospital as a precautionary measure.

"Gardaí are appealing to any member of the public who may have witnessed this incident to come forward," gardaí said in a statement. "Gardaí are also appealing to anyone who was travelling in the Park Street, Demesne and Redcow Roundabout areas of Dundalk at this time, who may have camera (dash cam) footage to make this available to investigating Gardaí."
