Britney Spears' father Jamie will remain as his daughter's conservator for her estate after a judge denied Britney's request to remove him from the conservatorship.

Last week, Britney Spears delivered an emotional testimony to the LA Supreme Court, where she called for an end to this "abusive" conservatorship with her father.

“I’ve lied and told the whole world I’m OK and I’m happy", Britney told the court.  “It’s a lie. I thought I just maybe if I said that enough. Because I’ve been in denial. I’ve been in shock. I am traumatised. You know, fake it till you make it".

She added, “But now I’m telling you the truth, OK? I’m not happy. I can’t sleep. I’m so angry it’s insane. And I’m depressed. I cry every day".

Last November, Spears' attorney Samuel D Ingham said that his client was afraid of her father and asked for him to be removed from the conservatorship, issued in 2008. Britney Spears had been placed under the legal arrangment, having suffered a series of mental breakdowns.

Ms Spears said that she wanted the Bessemer Trust, a private wealth managment firm to be "sole conservator" of the estate.

She also said that she was stopped from getting married, taking out her IUD or having more children.

Britney's testimony has received support in recent weeks from the likes of her former partner Justin Timberlake, Mariah Carey and Jedward.

"Denied"

However, court documents stated, "The conservator’s request to suspend James P. Spears immediately upon the appointment of Bessemer Trust Company of California as sole conservator of estate is denied without prejudice".

This also comes after Jamie Spears had denied being responsible for the restrictions imposed on his daughter's personal life.

Mr Spears has overseen Britney's estate over the last 13 years, but is not in charge of her private affairs, having stepped down in September 2019 due to poor health. He was temporarily replaced by Jodi Montgomery (Britney's caregiver).

Mr Spears also said that he was "concerned" at Mr Ingham's request to make Jodi Montgomery's position permanent.

"Based on her statements to the court, Mr Spears is concerned that the petition to appoint Jodi Montgomery filed by Ms Spears' court-appointed counsel Samuel D Ingham III does not reflect her wishes", Mr Spear's lawyers said.

"Ms Spears told the court on June 23 that she is opposed to being under a conservatorship and revealed her ongoing disputes with Ms Montgomery about her medical treatment and other personal care issues".

Lauriann Wright, Montgomery's attorney issued a statement in response.

"I can state unequivocally that Jodi Montgomery has been a tireless advocate for Britney and for her well-being".

She added, "While she does not control Britney's financial assets, she is responsible for her personal care, and if Britney wants any issue brought up to the Court, Ms Montgomery is and has always been ready, willing, and able to do so".
