ITV have confirmed that Alison Hammond and Dermot O'Leary will take over as presenters of This Morning following Philip Schofield's departure.

The host's exit from the show was confirmed last week, having presented This Morning for almost 20 years. Claiming that the show "has become the story", Philip Schofield added "I want to do what I can to protect the show I love".

Schofield's co presenter Holly Willoughby who will remain on the show, is taking an early half term holiday next week, with ITV saying that she is to return on June 5.

Philip Schofield's exit from the show comes having faced months of criticism, including a reported rift between himself and Willoughby. He was also criticised over his visit to the Queen's lying in state, along with his brother's sex abuse trial and conviction.

Timothy Schofield a former police civilian worker, was jailed for 12 years, after being convicted of 11 sexual offences involving a child between October 2016 and October 2019. Offences include two of sexual activity with a child.

ITV have confirmed that Dermot O'Leary and Alison Hammond who present the show every Friday, will step up their duties to host the show on Monday, with the broadcaster yet to confirm who will present the show for the rest of the week.

Hammond and O'Leary remain frontrunners to replace Schofield on a permanent basis, with other candidates including Josie Gibson, Rylan Clark, Gino D'Acampo, as well as former JLS sinsger Marvin Humes and his wife Rochelle Humes.
