Significant Increase in Unemployment in Galway in July

The latest live register figures show a significant increase in Galway for the month of July.

A total of 8,890 people were on the live register in Galway in July, an increase of 500 compared to June.

The unemployment numbers rose in every area of Galway except Clifden.

Galway City saw the highest rise. Unemployment numbers in the city rose by 242 to 4,397.

The second highest increase was in Tuam, where 86 people were added to the live register for a total of 1,378.

Ballinasloe came in at third, with a rise of 70 to 1,049.

50 additional people were added to the live register in Loughrea, where the total now stands at 879.

In Gort, 34 people were unemployed, creating a total of 642.

The trend was reversed in Clifden, where the live register total dropped by six to 646.
