Ed Sheeran has won his High Court battle over the copyright of the song "Shape of You".

Ed and his co-writers which included Johnny McDaid from "Snow Patrol" and producer Steve McCutcheon were accused of ripping off the song "Oh Why" by Sami Chokri and Ross O'Donoghue.  Sami performs under the same "Sami Switch".

The judge said there are similarities in the chorus but there are also significant differences.  He had also seen compelling evidence showing where Ed and the songwriters got their idea from.  Musicology experts who were asked their opinion in court had varying views.

£2.2 million in royalties from the song were frozen during the dispute but the songwriting team said they went to court purely to clear their names.
