The first two episodes of new TV series Conversations With Friends aired earlier this week, and viewers were quick to notice the shock appearance of a famous Irish comedian.

Fans were quick to spot that Irish comedy star Tommy Tiernan appeared in the opening episodes, with the Navan native starring as the father of one of the main characters Frances.

Viewers were surprised to see Tiernan, who also played a father role in Derry Girls.

Many people took to Twitter to express their shock at seeing Tiernan in the new series, with one writing "Seeing Tommy Tiernan in both Derry Girls and Conversations with Friends proved to me just how talented an actor he is. Phenomenal performances".

"Between his appearances on both Derry Girls and Conversations With Friends, Tommy Tiernan's acting is sorely underrated", another added.

Conversations With Friends is a TV adaption of Sally Rooney's novel of the same name, with Lenny Abrahamson once again serving as director. Abrahamson also directed Normal People, the successful TV adaption of Rooney's first novel of the same name.
