The contest to replace Boris Johnson is gathering pace.

The current bookies’ favourite for Conservative leader appears to be Rishi Sunak, but the odds have shortened on Penny Mordaunt who confirmed this morning she’s running too.

All the candidates are promising a “clean start”, after several scandals hit the Prime Minister.

Political Editor, Sam Coates, says many are also pledging to lower taxes, while others are being more cautious. “The question is do Tory MPs like the responsible vision or the generous vision? And a lot of this leadership contest is going to turn on that question.”
