It has been confirmed that a very special episode of EastEnders, saying goodbye to Dot Branning aka the late June Brown will be aired.

June Brown captured the hearts of the soap fans especially those that tune into Albert Square, in her role as Dot Cotton, her previously married name. June Brown passed away back in April, aged 95.

This episode will see Dot's family and friends come together to say goodbye to her, as news of Dot's death filters through Albert Square. The episode which will air in the winter, will show her family and friends come together for the beloved character's funeral.

According to the storyline, Dot is currently residing in Ireland, but it is her request to be buried in Walford.

"Everyone at EastEnders was truly heartbroken when June passed away earlier this year and, for quite a while, no one could even think about saying goodbye to Dot; an iconic character who will go down in television history and be cherished forever", executive producer Chis Clenshaw said.

Clenshaw also added that it is important to give Dot the "send off" that herself and June "rightly deserve".

"June was always adamant that she never wanted Dot's time to end while she was still with us, but she also knew that EastEnders would rightly say their farewells to Dot when the time was right", he continued.

"Sadly, that time has come, and we are determined to give the audience, who treasured Dot for so many years, the fitting tribute that she so deeply deserves".

"So whilst it will be a very, very sad day in Walford, we will be giving Dot the send-off that she and June would want and rightly deserve".

Having previously been awarded an MBE for services to drama and charity in 2008, June Brown also earned an OBE in 2021, for services to drama and charity in Queen Elizabeth II's honours list.
