Jessie Buckley has said that she hopes her upcoming film, Women Talking goes on to inspire debate.

Directed and written by Sarah Polley, Women Talking is based around a group of women from a religious colony who are struggling with their faith, after fallen victim to a series of sexual assaults.

These women are unsure to remain in their tight knit Mennonite community and forgive their attackers, or leave.

With Oscar nominations to be revealed on 24 January 2023, Killarney native Buckley is tipped to land the award for Best Supporting Actress, following her performance in the American drama.

"I don't think it is gender specific. It's not just for women. I hope it's not just for women", Buckley said of the drama, as she arrived at the UK premiere at the BFI London Film Festival.

"I think this is a conversation starter and something that can be debated and thought about again in 10 years' time", she continued. "I definitely feel like in the few festivals that we've gone to that this is just the beginning and actually what this film is about is really what it is about after it finishes and that's really exciting".

"amazing"

Women Talking will see Jessie Buckley star alongside Mississipi Burnin actress Frances McDormand, as well as Claire Foy, Rooney Mara and Ben Whislaw.

When asked about working with the cast, Jessie Buckley described it as "amazing".

"It was great, it was amazing", she said. "We were so lucky, there was not one bad egg, and when you're dealing with this kind of material, we just had a laugh".

"We'd come back to the room and natter and drink wine and have fun".

Women Talking is to be released in cinemas soon.
