Tribute Pour In For Actress Lynda Baron Who Died Aged 82

Tributes have been pouring in for actress Lynda Baron who passed away at the age of 82.

Lynda Baron was known for a variety of roles in her career, including starring as Nurse Gladys Emmanuel alongside Ronnie Barker and David Jason in the British sitcom Open All Hours. The show ran for four series during the 1970s. She also reprised her role as Nurse Gladys in the sequel Still Open All Hours. 

Baron also had a starring role as Aunt Mabel in the BBC Children's show Come Outside, as well as playing Linda Clarke in Eastenders.

Along with appearing in Doctor Who, Dinner Ladies and Last of the Summer Wine, Lynda Baron also earned a Bafta nomination for her role in BBC Four's The Road to Coronation Street, where she played Violet Carson who starred as Ena Sharples in the long running soap. 

Releasing a statement, confirming the sad news, her agent of nearly 30 years Donna French said, "It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of our beloved client Lynda Baron". 

"She was a wonderful actress and a great friend", she continued. "Her iconic roles of Nurse Gladys in Open All Hours and Aunt Mabel in Come Outside were loved by all generations. Renowned for her leading roles in West End musicals and dramatic productions alike, we have lost a leading light of our world. We extend our deepest condolences to her daughter Sarah, her son Morgan and all her family".

Tributes  have been paid to Lynda Baron following her death.

 "We’re deeply saddened to hear that Lynda Baron has passed away. Our love and thoughts are with Lynda’s family and friends", Eastenders posted. 

Former Coronation Street actress Sally Lindsay who worked with Lynda Baron on the sequel Still Open All Hours wrote, "I loved Lynda Baron. She was funny and clever and a joy to work with, and she once gifted me a pair of beautiful red shoes. This has made me very sad. RIP Lynda darling". 

While TV network Gold also added, "We're all deeply saddened by the passing of Lynda Baron who was well-loved as Nurse Gladys Emmanuel in both Open All Hours and Still Open All Hours. Our thoughts are with her family and friends".
