What is Irish Music Month?

An initiative involving 21 Independent Radio Stations who,
through the IBI to promote and celebrate Irish Music in association with Hot Press magazine

A final shortlist of six artists has been announced in the search for A New Local Hero – the unique music award, which has been created as part of Irish Music Month. 

The artists, listed here in alphabetical order, with the radio stations they represent, will play a special showcase at the Academy in Dublin on Tuesday 15th of October at the end of which one will be crowned as Ireland’s New Local Hero for 2024:

Calum Agnew (LMFM)

Bobbi Arlo (FM104)

Asophonics (KCLR FM)

Mia Black (Shannonside / Northern Sound)

Jessica Brett (Tipp FM)

Projective (Cork's 96FM)

The six artists, who are among the country’s brightest young music hopes, were selected from a long list of 20 – each of whom was selected as a Local Hero by twenty independent stations all over Ireland, covering every blade of grass in the country.  

The 'A New Local Hero' award caries an extraordinary prize for the final recipient, which includes: 

– €5,000 in cash 

– €1, 400 for their live performance at the final

– The release of a single via the RubyWorks label (home of Hozier) inclusive of studio recording time and mixing & mastering of the studio session.

– A guaranteed 30 plays on all 20 stations, adding up to a minimum of 600 in total 

– National exposure via an interview in Hot Press 

– A full PR campaign around the release of the single including full photo shoot, with pix to use for future promo
- Industry Mentoring

All in it’s a prize package of circa 10K and will provide a huge boost to a young band on the rise

And that’s not all. On the night of the final anyone of the 20 finalists are still in line to be announced as the Wildcard winner. The Wildcard winner is based exclusively on public votes and the winner will receive a cash bursary of €2,500 to further boost their career. This is additional to the money they will have already received for being a part of the Irish Music Month experience.

Congratulations to EMMA NOODLES was chosen as Ireland's Classic Hits Radio's Local Hero 2024

 

 

A panel of industry experts will then choose just six acts to go forward and play at the special showcase event in The Academy, Dublin on Tuesday 15 October 2024.

 

The Winning artist will have their song play live on air, get expert mentoring, win 10K in support, have their song released by a Rubyworks and enjoy airplay across 21 radio stations

Ireland's Classic Hits Radio is proud to announce our four finalists for this year’s New Local Hero as part of Irish Music Month.

We received hundreds for entries over the past two weeks from some incredible new Irish talent. Given the hight quality of song entries it was a very difficult decision to narrow the shortlist to just four.



Here were the four candidates for 2024:

I.F. Band, Kildare


Song: The Ballad of the Lost

The band got together when they were 14 years old. The first song they recorded was Something about you. They have done some charity work. They played in the sound house. 


Dan O'Keeffe, Cork
 


Song: Summer Lights

Dan O'Keeffe is an Indie Folk/Rock singer-songwriter based in Cork City. With a genuine passion for song writing and lively melodies, Dan draws influence from Radiohead, Kings of Leon and Jeff Buckley. He recently released his first single "Summer Lights".
 

Emma Noodles, Kildare

Song: Space Cowboy

Emma Noodles is an up-and-coming singer-songwriter from Kildare. Emma’s sound ranges from classic rock to 80s dream pop with a little country twang to it. Noodles is sure to leave a lasting impression.

 

Podge Lane, Cork

Song: Down

Already being named Track of The Day and a “Serious One to Watch” by Hot Press, Podge Lane is an Irish alt-country artist celebrated for his intimate lyricism melded with experimental country instrumentation. With the release of his third album Multiple Dead Ends on August 30th, Podge has already garnered comparisons to John Prine and Randy Newman.
