A quantity of controlled drugs that disappeared from an ambulance on Tuesday evening has been recovered by a member of the public.

The drugs went missing from an ambulance outside the Mercy Hospital on Grenville Place.

The National Ambulance Service appealed to the public for information on the whereabouts of the drugs, which were in a grey and red bag.

The public was warned not to touch the drugs.

"The National Ambulance Service (NAS) wish to advise the public that a small quantity of controlled drugs has gone missing," the NAS announced yesterday evening. "A pouch containing the drugs which is red in colour with a grey trim and has the National Ambulance Service crest on it was noticed missing by a NAS crew while on duty in the Grenville place area of Cork City this evening. The pouch is hand size and has CD Rx A42 printed on the front."

It has now been reported that a member of the public found the drugs and handed them in to a pharmacy in Friars Walk, Cork City. The contents of the bag were fully intact.

The NAS has thanked the public for their assistance and co-operation.
