Residents of Thomas Street have been evacuated as firefighters tackle a large blaze in the area.

Just before noon, units from the fire brigade headquarters, Dolphin’s Barn and Donnybrook were called to fight the blaze, which is believed to have broken out on the roof of a building in the vicinity of the Vicar Street venue. The area was blocked off and evacuated.

Dublin Fire Brigade has said the fire has been brought under control and that its teams "prevented any significant spread of the fire." Crews remain on the scene and are "damping down any hotspots."

In a message on Twitter the Fire Brigade said "Some crews will remain on scene for a number of hours and others will be released back to stations."

Gardaí have said that the road closures will be lifted soon.

"There have been no reports of any injuries at this time," a Garda spokesperson announced.
