Owner, Derek Duggen shares the experience, and some of the other time famous faces have entered the establishment.

Leo Burdock’s of Werburgh Street is the oldest chipper in Dublin and is known for its famous customers over the years. Well, the Leo Burdock wall of fame has a new face to add, following Patrick Dempsey’s visit to the historic chipper.

The Hollywood star is currently staying in Ireland for the filming of Disney’s Disenchanted and ventured to Dublin for the finest fish and chips around. However, he is not the first famous face to have graced the establishment, as owner, Derek Duggan explains on Ireland AM.

Speaking to Alan Hughes, Derek dished all the dirt on the celebrity food lovers that have dropped by over the years. He said movie star Patrick came in yesterday, following suit shopping at Louis Copeland’s on Capel Street. Derek revealed the stat got a superb suit and then went in search of a fabulous meal of fish and chips to round off his day.

He was having an indulgent day and wanted to treat himself so, we were more than happy [to serve him]. He popped in and saw the hall of fame and I guess he wanted to be up there with Bruce Springsteen and Bono and all the rest of them”, quipped Derek.

Evoke report that Patrick posed for photos at the Dublin chipper and shared one on his Instagram page, with the caption; “bleeding deadly”. The Disenchanted star also posed for pictures with Leo Burdock’s staff members, capping off a truly wonderful experience for the chipper.

Derek humorously explained that the staff members who posed in the picture did not even realise who they were serving. He explained how staff members, Conor and Mario did not even recognise Patrick when he came into the chipper. In fact, they did not know until general manager, Celina recognised him and explained to them who they were casually speaking to.

Derek also shared great stories of other famous faces who have visited the famous chipper, including Brendan Gleeson’s actor son, Domhnall.

We like to think Bruce Springsteen is a regular, he tips the lads well so I’m more than happy to let him in. When the U2 lads were around, Adam used to bring his girlfriends in - Naomi Campbell and Christy Turlington — they never ate too much but they always had a good time.

Leo Burdocks was established in 1913 in the Christchurch area of Dublin, filling the bellies of hungry locals and famous celebrities.
