Iconic 90s hip hop group, The Fugees are reportedly reuniting as they feel "the time is right to return".
The Fugees are reportedly finally over their age-long feud and will reunite for the first time in more than 15 years. According to reports, the iconic, 90s Haitian-American hip hop group have set aside their differences and are considering giving it another bash.
Despite releasing just two albums, ‘94’s Blunted on Reality and ‘96’s The Score, the group became a commercial success. The Score peaked at #1 on the US Billboard 200 chart and is considered to be one of the greatest hip hop albums of all time, including hit singles Killing Me Softly (see below), Ready or Not, and Fu-Gee-La. However, members Lauryn Hill, Wyclef Jean and Pras Michel, had gone their separate ways in 1997 to pursue solo careers.
The group did reunite in 2004 to embark on a huge tour and even began work on a third album. Although tensions and creative differences between the members reached tipping point and ultimately led to the group’s official disbanding. Now according to reports, the trio are back in contact and are even considering giving things another shot.
“It is the reunion which nobody ever believed would happen but it looks like Fugees will finally reunite,” a source informed The Sun. “Lauryn, Pras and Wyclef are still discussing what exactly they will do but they have managed to talk through everything which happened last time and feel like the time is right to return.
“There are loads of ideas being thrown around, including a tour, a movie and maybe even new music — it could be their first album in 25 years. There is a lot of buzz and they all want to make it happen.”
The latest reports suggest a stark difference in feeling with the group previously insisting a reunion would never materialise. In 2007, Pras said we would “have a better chance of seeing Osama Bin Laden and (George W.) Bush in Starbucks having a latte, discussing foreign policies, before there will be a Fugees reunion.”
Regarded as one of the most influential groups of the 90s, Fugees have sold over 22 million records worldwide. Here’s to a bright future for the group, and hopefully many new albums to come.
