More than 100 million people around the world watched Squid Game in its first month. It has now been confirmed that the Netflix hit will have a second series - something not always common for South Korean shows.

The creator and director of Squid Game has confirmed that the “deadly” show will be returning to Netflix for a second season. The dystopian South Korean show captured the attention of almost everyone to become the largest ever launch on the streaming giant’s platform.

Over 100 million viewers tuned in for the first season within its first month of showing! With most shows in South Korea only serving a single season, Hwang Dong-hyuk said “I almost feel like you leave us no choice” but to continue for a second.

Mr Hwang said, “There's been so much pressure, so much demand and so much love for a second season. It's in my head right now. I'm in the planning process currently. But I do think it's too early to say when and how that's going to happen. So, I will promise you this, Gi-hun will be back and he'll do something for the world.

The series is set in South Korea and sees people who are heavily in debt invited to play a series of challenges which could see them scoop 45.6 billion. Contestants have to beat 455 other people to win the money while playing children's games such as Red Light, Green Light - but the catch is if you lose, you die.

In an effort to show more international programmes on its platform, Netflix premiered the show in September to great avail. Gaining momentum over the months, the show everyone is talking about is now reaping rewards for the actors involved, gaining celebrity status.

Model actress, Jung Ho-yeon recently landed in LA and was stopped by a border guard who wanted her autograph! Lee Jung-jae, who plays lead character Seong Gi-Hun, has been working in South Korea for 25 years but now he is being recognised on the streets of the US.

Jung-jae said, “That's amazing, right? People just go around and say hello. So, I really don't know how to respond to all the love. It's so great to be able to meet the fans who have loved and watched the show so much.
