Date announced for King Charles III coronation

King Charles III's coronation ceremony will take place on the 3rd of June 2023 at Westminster Abbey.

Insiders say it will be a much smaller and modest affair than his late mother's coronation in 1953.  Queen Elizabeth II was coronated a full year after the passing of her father.  King George VI died of lung cancer in February 1952 at the young age of 56.  His daughter was just 25 years old when she took over his reign.

Tradition means a good length of pass must pass by after the death of monarch before a coronation festival can take place.
