Amanda Bynes has been released from her conservatorship which put her life and financial decisions in the hands of her parents for almost 9 years.

Bynes rose to fame as a child actor on Nickelodeon, landing her own hit programme The Amanda Show, as well as appearing on their sketch series All That.

She also starred in films Hairspray, She's The Man, and What A Girl Wants. Bynes has not acted since appearing in the 2010 Emma Stone film Easy A.

However, Amanda Bynes subsequently struggled with mental health and substance abuse. She also had problems with the law, which prompted her parents to seek court control through a conservatorship in 2013.

In 2012, Bynes was arrested for throwing a bong of marijuana out of her 36 floor apartment. She was also arrested for driving whilst under the influence, and driving with a suspended licence along with a misdemenanour hit and run. Her parents had also alleged that she started a fire on the driveway in a home of a Los Angeles suburb of Thousand Oaks where she grew up.

"no longer exist"

However, in court Judge Roger Lund terminated the conservatorship at a hearing in Southern Carolina's Oxnard, according to Bynes' sollicitor David A Esquibias.

Amanda Bynes' parents agreed that the conservatorship should end. They did tell the court that it was established as they were concerned that their daughter might hurt herself or others if they were not granted control of her financial and medical affaires.

They had also claimed that Bynes had been engaging in worrying behavour. They said that she was convinced that she was being spied on through smoke detectors and her car's dashboard, and planning dangerous cosmetic surgeries.

In court documents outlining the case, Mr Lund said, "The court determines that the conservatorship is no longer required and that grounds for establishment of a conservatorship of the person no longer exist".

Having claimed publicly that she has retired from acting, Amanda Bynes has claimed that she has been sober for the last few years. She is studying at the Fashion Institute of Design and Merchandising on Los Angeles.
