It recently emerged that Spider-Man: No Way Home grossed over $1 billion at the box office. It is the first Hollywood film since 2019 to achieve this feat.

Sony confirmed this news on St Stephen's Day. This film also becomes the third fastest to gross $1 billion. Other films Avengers: Infinity War reached the milestone in 11 days, while Avengers: Endgame hit $1 billion hit this target in five days. Both films also featured current Spiderman star Tom Holland.

Spider Man's latest installment reached $260 million during its opening weekend.

Becoming the first film to gross over $1 billion since the Covid-19 Pandemic began, Spider-Man: No Way Home is set to overtake Star Wars: The Rise Of Skywalker which was released in December 2019.

Along with marking the end of the Homecoming trilogy, this film also marked the first collaboration between Marvel Studios and Sony (owner of the film rights to Spider-Man and a litany of related characters).

"mind-boggling"

This also marks the highest ever grossing figure released by a Sony film.

Describing this feat as "mind boggling", Paul Dergarabedian who is a senior media analyst at Comscore also added this.

“What this represents is quite mind-boggling. These numbers would be very impressive in the pre-pandemic era, but for Spider-Man: No Way Home to sprint to a billion dollars in this marketplace is really hard to wrap your mind around", he said.

“The monumental achievement of ‘No Way Home’ hitting this number cannot be overstated for this industry right now".

Sony Pictures Motion Picture Group CEO and chairman Tom Rothman also added, "This weekend’s historic Spider-Man: No Way Home results, from all over the world and in the face of many challenges, reaffirm the unmatched cultural impact that exclusive theatrical films can have when they are made and marketed with vision and resolve".
