Tributes have been paid to music legend Tina Turner, who passed away aged 83.

The singer passed away, having battled with several health issues over the years, including being diagnosed with intestinal cancer in 2016, and undergoing a kidney transplant a year later.

Having forged a music career performing with her husband Ike Turner, the duo released tracks such as 'Proud Mary' and ‘River Deep, Mountain High’.

After suffering from years of domestic abuse at the hands of her husband Ike, Tina left him in 1976. Their divorce was finalised two years later.  Following this, Tina Turner enjoyed a hugely successful solo career, which yielded 8 Grammy Awards, and a Hall of Fame induction in 2021.

"wonderful friend"

Following her death, a myriad of tributes were paid to the 'Queen of Rock 'n' Roll', Tina Turner.

Blondie lead singer Debbie Harry described Tina Turner as a “benefactor of the energy, creativity and talents of Tina Turner”, adding “A woman who started in rural Nutbush, TN cotton fields and worked her way to the very top. Tina was a great inspiration to me when I was starting out and remains so to this day. Love you Tina. RIP”.

The Rolling Stones pair Mick Jagger and Ronnie Wood also paid moving tributes to their "wonderful friend" via social media.

Elton John also took to Instagram to pay homage to Turner.
