Big music comeback successes......and flops!

Westlife are celebrating their comeback with their first single, “Hello my love” in almost a decade shooting straight into the charts at number 1.  They’ve also sold out 2 dates at Croke Park in minutes so we thought we’d take a look at some of music’s biggest comeback successes and comeback flops

Spice Girls – Rumours circulated for years that the Spice Girls would reform one day and they finally confirmed the news last November.  Although Victoria Beckham won’t be joining them, the tickets for their live tour which kicks off in Dublin’s Croke Park on Friday May 24^th this year, instantly sold out! At one point, over 700,000 fans were queuing online to secure their tickets

Boyzone are back!  Ok so they’re about to go again but that’s not the point.  Their “Thank You and Goodnight” album, which will be their final album is out now and they’re about to kick off their “Farewell Tour” in Ireland and the UK. They play the 3Arena in Dublin on the 24^th of January.  Their latest single is called “Because”

Take That – After forming in 1990, they split in 1996.  10 years later, they embarked on a reunion tour which was a massive success.  It was called “The Ultimate Tour” and we saw them perform as a 4-piece at the RDS in Dublin.  They took another hiatus between 2011 and 2013, but made another comeback in 2016 with their “Wonderland” tour.  They’ll play Dublin’s 3Arena on April 29^th & 30^th on their “30^th Anniversary Tour”

Janice Robinson from Livin’ Joy – Janice had a massive hit with “Dreamer” in the mid-90’s and last year attempted a comeback, auditioning on the XFactor.  Unfortunately, it didn’t go her way and she was eliminated in week 2 of the live show

Cheryl – She was once the golden girl on the XFactor judge’s panel, the face of many beauty products and fashionista but Cheryl’s musical comeback hasn’t exactly worked out.  Her comeback single, “Love Made me do it”, released a few months ago dropped to no.48 after a week and was considered a flop. 

Bros – After releasing their debut album in 1987, Bros posters covered every bedroom wall in the country.  They had a number of hits like “I owe you nothing” before splitting in 1992.  Then 25 years after their last performance, they decided to reunite on stage.  They ended up cancelling half of their new tour due to poor ticket sales.
