Lauryn Hill has confirmed UK and Europe tour dates will still be going ahead but cited “clickbait headlines” as the reason for cancelling her US shows with The Fugees.
Yesterday it was revealed that Lauryn Hill and the Fugees North American shows had been cancelled just three days before the concerts would start.
At the time, concert-goers were left without a reason for the last minute cancellation and the fate of the UK and European leg of the tour was left unclear.
In a post made to Instagram today, Hill shed some light on why the US dates were cancelled.
"The trust and faith I have in my intentions... have been overshadowed,”
Fans will be glad to know that “the shows in the UK and Europe ARE MOVING FORWARD as planned.” Hill wrote.
The iconic singer-songwriter said that tickets for the North American shows had sold poorly due to clickbait articles from tabloid publications.
“Last year, I faced an injury that necessitated the rescheduling of some of my shows. Regrettably, some media outlet’s penchant for sensationalism and clickbait headlines have seemingly created a narrative that has affected ticket sales for the North American portion of the tour. The trust and faith I have in my intentions and my commitment to my art seem to have been overshadowed by this unfortunate portrayal.”
"I FIGHT and push through all kinds of resistance to put together experiences that mean something for all of us."
“Know that I am not only grateful for those who appreciate and support my art, but that I FIGHT and push through all kinds of resistance to put together experiences that mean something for all of us." The American singer added. "I love being able to bring these performances to you!”
Hill assured North American fans that herself and The Fugees will hopefully return once “these unforeseen circumstances are resolved.”
The statement concluded with Hill thanking fans for their understanding and mentioning how excited she and The Fugees were for the UK and Europe shows.
“With Love, Respect and Honesty, MLH” she signs off.
This tour comes after a number of shows dedicated to ‘Miseducation’ were cancelled last November due to Hill experiencing “serious vocal strain”.
The 49-year-old has since made a return to performing live, appearing at a few festivals over the February, March and April, including a well-received set at California's iconic Coachella festival.
In January of 2022, Lauryn Hill and The Fugees had to cancel their tour, celebrating the 25th anniversary of ’The Score’ due to the Covid-19 pandemic.
