Apple opens new office building at European headquarters in Cork

The Taoiseach has officially opened a major new office building at Apple’s European headquarters in Cork, creating space for up to 1,300 additional employees. The new facility overlooks Cork city and further expands the company’s long-established presence on the northside of the city.

Apple is currently Cork’s largest private employer, with approximately 6,000 staff primarily based at its Hollyhill campus. The site has been central to the company’s operations in Ireland for more than four decades and continues to play a key role in its global activities.

Taoiseach Micheál Martin said the contribution the company has made to Cork and Ireland "cannot be overstated - creating thousands of highly-skilled roles and continually investing in their Irish operation".

The opening ceremony was also attended by the Lord Mayor of Cork, Cllr Fergal Dennedy, who highlighted the company’s long-standing impact on the city. He said the company has been a cornerstone of innovation and growth in Cork for the past 45 years.

"The company's growth here to become the city's largest private employer mirrors Cork city's own journey from a regional centre to what will be Ireland's fastest growing city-region over the next two decades," he told employees and guests gathered for today's opening.

To mark the occasion, a civic reception will be held this evening at Cork City Hall in recognition of the company’s contribution to the city and region.

In addition to the expansion in Cork, Apple has announced the opening of its first permanent office in Dublin. The new office, located at Park Place in Dublin city centre near the Iveagh Gardens, will have capacity for up to 300 employees. Staff are expected to begin moving into the Dublin premises later this year, where teams will carry out work similar to that undertaken in Cork.

IDA Ireland welcomed the development, stating that the new Dublin office would "support the ongoing diversification and development of its Irish operations".

Apple first established operations in Ireland in 1980, opening a manufacturing facility at Hollyhill with just 60 employees. Since then, it has grown significantly and now employs around 6,000 people from more than 90 countries. Teams based in Cork support customers in over 130 countries and manage the shipment of Apple products to more than 50 countries worldwide.
