After three weeks at sea, Pete Currier found himself in trouble when the engine of his 51 foot boat broke down. He was coming towards the end of a journey from the Caribbean to Wales.

Currier raised his sails but a lack of wind left him stranded for 10 days in the Atlantic Ocean. Finding his way to the Cork coast, he contacted the Coast Guard.

The boat was towed into Kinsale by the local RNLI. Currier now intends to stay in Kinsale for a few weeks while he repairs his boat.

Speaking in a radio interview, Currier said he never felt afraid while stranded.

"I've never been afraid in my life, I've never seen the point of being afraid. It's a waste of energy as far as I'm concerned," he said. "What if any kind of emotional state is going to affect that? None at all, so just get with it."

Along with U2, Currier has worked with artists like Prince and Nirvana. He credits his career with helping to develop his pragmatic outlook.

"I toured with rock bands for many, many years, and back in the days before the internet if something broke you had to fix it, and I got really good at that stuff. It's amazing what you can do if you put your mind to it!"
