5 Year Old Girl In Serious Condition Following Dublin Knife Attack

A five year old girl and a woman in her 30s have been left in a serious condition , following a horrific knife attack in Dublin City Centre yesterday.

This happened after a man in his 40s launched an attack with a knife, stabbing several children, who were lining up outside a school on Parnell Square East, yesterday afternoon.

A five year old girl was stabbed and seriously injured, before being treated at Temple St Hospital. Two other children including a 6 year old girl, and five year old boy, were also attacked in the same incident, suffering minor injuries.

They have been treated at Crumlin Hospital, with the boy being later discharged. 

A woman in her 30s who worked at the school, caring for the children was also injured in the attack, after attempting to intervene. She was stabbed and seriously injured. She is currently being treated at the Mater Hospital.

The man who carried out these attacks, is aged in his 40s, and was arrested by Gardaí, before being taken to hospital for injuries, which have been described as serious.

Gardaí are at the hospital, where the man is receiving treatment.

Gardaí have stated that they are following a "definite line of enquiry". They also said they are not looking for anyone else at the moment.
