Gardaí from the Dublin Metropolitan Region (DMR) South carried out a major Day of Action  targeting the criminal use of electric motorbikes and related offences.

The operation is part of Operation Meacan, an initiative launched in December 2023 to combat the growing use of electric bikes and scooters in serious criminal activities such as drug dealing, money laundering, and drug-related intimidation.

Yesterday's coordinated effort began at 7am and involved over 40 searches across Tallaght, Crumlin, and Terenure. The searches were led by local Crime Units and supported by Community Policing, Armed Support Units, road policing teams, and even a local authority Dog Warden.

Among the items seized were:

  • 39 electric scooters, 14 e-bikes, 6 quads, and 5 motorbikes
  • Drugs valued at over €14,000, including cannabis, cocaine, and tablets
  • Cash totalling €13,245
  • High-value clothing worth €10,000
  • Other items including knives, fireworks, mobile phones, and a chainsaw

The seized drugs are being sent to Forensic Science Ireland (FSI) for analysis. Gardaí have confirmed that investigations are ongoing.

Operation Meacan remains a priority for DMR South, as authorities continue to crack down on the misuse of e-vehicles in organised crime.
