Dublin City Council has moved to quash rumours that a newly redeveloped housing development in Coolock will be used to accommodate asylum seekers.

The council issued a statement on social media in response to false claims circulating locally about the future residents of Glin Court, an Older Persons Housing development originally built in the 1970s, which was vacated following fire damage in 2018.

The site has since undergone a major refurbishment, delivering 32 new one-bedroom homes.

In its statement, the council confirmed that all new tenants will be selected from its Housing Allocations and Transfers list only, and not from international protection or asylum seeker accommodation schemes.

It has asked the public to help share accurate information and prevent further misinformation from spreading within the community.
