A man in his 60s has been arrested in connection with the long-running investigation into the disappearance and suspected murder of Annie McCarrick, Gardaí have confirmed.
McCarrick, a 26-year-old from New York, was living in Dublin when she vanished in March 1993. Her case has remained one of Ireland’s most high-profile missing persons cases, and was officially upgraded to a murder investigation in 2023.
The man is currently being detained at a Garda station in Dublin under Section 4 of the Criminal Justice Act.
As part of the renewed investigation, Gardaí have begun a detailed search of a residential property in the Clondalkin area. Both the house and garden will be examined and are undergoing technical and forensic analysis.
Investigators have stressed that the current occupants of the property are not connected to Annie McCarrick or her disappearance in any way.
Gardaí are continuing to appeal for information, urging anyone who may have knowledge about the case, no matter how small or seemingly insignificant, to come forward and contact the investigation team.
