Revenue officers have seized contraband worth more than €821,000 in a series of coordinated operations across Dublin, the Midlands, and Rosslare Europort over the past week, according to a statement released today.
The seizures, which took place from 2 June, were the result of targeted, intelligence-led efforts and risk profiling. The operations uncovered a wide range of illicit items, including drugs, tobacco, counterfeit goods, alcohol, and cash.
Among the most significant finds were:
The cannabis and other drugs were intercepted with assistance from Revenue’s highly trained detector dogs: Mollaigh, Sam, Enzo, and Ciara, during parcel inspections at facilities in Dublin and the Midlands. The packages originated from the United States, the United Kingdom, and Canada, and were addressed to various locations around the country.
The illicit tobacco and alcohol were seized during additional operations in the Midlands and Rosslare, where Revenue also confiscated 23 weapons.
Three separate cash seizures occurred at Rosslare Europort. At a special sitting of Gorey District Court, Judge Kevin Staunton granted a three-month detention order for each seizure, allowing authorities time to investigate further.
The counterfeit goods were removed from circulation after confirmation from the Rights Holder that the items violated intellectual property rights.
Revenue has confirmed that investigations into all the seizures are ongoing. These efforts are part of the agency’s broader campaign to combat smuggling and the shadow economy.
Authorities are urging the public and businesses with any information related to smuggling to contact Revenue in confidence via its dedicated line at 1800 295 295.
