The former football legend donated  €30,900 to the charity for the Marymount Hospital and Hospice, who are running a charity raffle until February next year.

Staff were left stunned by Keane's seismic gesture, according to Enid Conway, the fundraising and marketing manager for Marymount Hospice.

“Roy Keane’s incredible generosity means the world to us here", Conway said. “A huge community of people receive the special care delivered by Marymount. It is inspiring to see this acknowledged by anyone wishing to support what we do".

Marymount Hospice was built in 2011, providing palliative and respite care, along with bereavement counselling support, at its 44 bed facility.

Ms Conway also added, “Marymount is a unique and essential force of care for families in Cork and further afield. We are sincerely thankful for Roy’s gesture and the positive impact it will have for those in our care and their families. It really is a wonderful act of kindness".

Roy Keane's kind heart knows no bounds when it comes to charity, having launched Guide Dog Day back in May. This is a fundraising campaign calling on dog lovers across Ireland to get involved and donate.
