A Galway-based animal charity has found a hilariously clever way to turn Valentine’s heartbreak into something genuinely positive — and the internet is absolutely loving it.
Galway SPCA has launched a tongue-in-cheek Valentine’s Day fundraiser called “Neuter Your Ex,” giving people the chance to channel post-breakup feelings into real support for animal welfare. The concept is simple, playful, and for a great cause: for €30, the charity will name a feral cat after your ex and have them neutered as part of its Trap, Neuter and Release (TNR) programme.
If that feels a bit too final, there’s a softer option. For €5, donors can symbolically “swipe left” on their former flame, funding parasite treatment for a feral cat in their ex’s name instead. Closure comes in many forms — some of them furry.
The campaign, which runs throughout February, has quickly gained traction online, with social media users praising the charity’s humour and creativity. One fan summed up the mood perfectly, calling it “the best fundraising idea I’ve ever seen.”
Galway SPCA explained the thinking behind the campaign in a social media post that struck a surprisingly heartfelt tone. “As we enter the season of love, we all know not every love story gets a fairytale ending,” they wrote. “Sometimes things just don’t work out — and letting go can be harder than we expect.”
