Gardaí Renew Appeal for Information Regarding 1985 Disappearance of Carna Woman

Gardaí are seeking assistance in a disappearance which occurred 36 years ago.

Barbara Walsh was last seen at her home in Rusheenamanagh, Carna at approximately 4am on June 22nd, 1985. She was 33 years old and a mother of seven children at the time of her disappearance.

Walsh is believed to have last been seen during a gathering of people at her house following an evening at a local pub.

Following an appeal by Walsh's family, then Garda Commissioner Nóirín O’Sullivan ordered a review of the case in 2015. A number of searches were carried out at that time by investigating Gardaí with the assistance of the Garda Technical Bureau, a cadaver dog from the UK and a forensic anthropologist.

At a media briefing on Tuesday, Garda investigators and Walsh family members are set to renew their plea for anyone with information regarding Barbara's disappearance to come forward.

Barbara’s daughter, Catjerine Ui Chongaile, appealed personally last year for anyone with knowledge of her mother's fate to contact the Gardaí.

Anyone with information should contact Crimestoppers (1800 250 025), Salthill Garda Station (091-514720), any Garda Station, or the Garda confidential line (1800 666 111).
