Patients across the Mid-West will soon have local access to advanced cancer and disease diagnostics, as Alliance Medical, in partnership with Bon Secours Hospital Limerick, announces the region’s first PET CT scanner.
Set to become fully operational in October 2025, the new PET CT scanner will form part of Bon Secours’ Clinical Services Hub in Ballysimon, adjacent to its recently opened hospital. The service promises to significantly reduce waiting times and eliminate the need for patients to travel to Dublin or Cork for this crucial imaging.
PET CT scans are vital for the early and accurate detection of cancer, heart disease, and neurological conditions. By combining anatomical and metabolic imaging, the technology provides clinicians with highly detailed diagnostic data to support faster, more precise treatment decisions.
Malcolm Banks, Managing Director of Alliance Medical Ireland, said the investment marks a milestone for patient care in the region. “This is about ensuring that people in the Mid-West can access world-class diagnostic services locally and quickly. We’re proud to deliver this in collaboration with Bon Secours Limerick.”
The new service is expected to improve outcomes by facilitating early diagnosis, quicker interventions, and more personalised care, all while helping to alleviate pressure on national diagnostic services.
