In a tragedy that has rocked both the entertainment industry and those who worked closest to her, American Idol music supervisor Robin Kaye and her husband Thomas were found shot dead in their Los Angeles home. Kaye, a beloved and respected veteran of reality TV, was 70 years old.
The horrifying discovery was made after a welfare check was carried out at the couple’s residence. Both Robin and Thomas Kaye had suffered fatal gunshot wounds. According to authorities, there were no signs of forced entry or visible struggle at the property, making the case even more chilling.
Police have arrested 22-year-old Raymond Boodarian in connection with the double homicide. It is alleged that Boodarian burglarised the Kayes' home while they were away on July 10, then waited and murdered the couple upon their return. The calculated brutality of the crime has left friends, family, and industry colleagues reeling.
Robin Kaye was far more than a name in the credits. A cornerstone of American Idol since 2009, she was instrumental in shaping the musical DNA of the long-running series. Her resume also included credits on Lip Sync Battle, The Singing Bee, and multiple Miss USA and Miss Universe pageants. These weren’t just jobs, they were institutions of American television, and Kaye's handprints were on every one of them.
A spokesperson for American Idol issued a heartfelt statement following the devastating news:
“Robin has been a cornerstone of the Idol family since 2009 and was truly loved and respected by all who came in contact with her. Robin will remain in our hearts forever and we share our deepest sympathy with her family and friends during this difficult time.”
It’s a cruel and senseless loss of a woman who helped define an era of reality music television, and a life partner taken alongside her. The industry mourns not just a contributor, but a colleague, a mentor, and, by all accounts, a kind and generous soul.
