Anastacia has hit out at the media for leaking the news regarding her cancer diagnosis.

The singer spoke about this along with her life and career in an intimate conversation with the podcast, How To Fail, hosted by Elizabeth Day.

The 'I'm Outta Love' singer was diagnosed with cancer in 2003, before undergoing a double mastectomy in 2013.

Speaking about her diagnosis, Anastacia criticised the media for breaking the story, before she had a chance to tell her loved ones.

"Now they've taken away the ability of me being able to say my truth," she told the podcast. "Oh, I'm going to be loud. I'm going to tell people. Cancer gave the wrong girl cancer".

Anastaacia went on to tell the podcast that she found out about her illness by accident.

"When I found out I had cancer it was not in the typical way. I went in for a breast reduction, then I found out", she revealed, before explaining how she came to terms with the diagnosis with her customary humour: "I can always deliver anger with humour. I call my titties, ‘toxic titties’, you know? They're my ta-tas. It's a good way to try and make something negative positive".

The interview did feature more uplifting moments, like her early career as a singer at high profile events, and how a chance meeting with legendary director, Steven Spielberg came out years after performing live at his wedding.

"Steven goes, 'You know, I think the most ironic part is that we're still married.'" She also reminisced about performing for Arnold Schwarzenegger at his birthday party, where he repeatedly requested the song "What a Man", Anastacia said, "He was just so sweet with it. He wasn't like, 'It's all about me.' He was like a little kid in a candy store when it would come on".

Elsewhere, Anastacia also spoke about her iconic look, explaining that she had chosen her distinctive eyewear style in order to avoid unwanted attention from men.

She said: "I decided to put a tint in my glasses primarily because when I wore glasses and they were uniquely shaped, they didn't have a tint, and guys, more than I want to care for would always call me a sexy librarian".

In September, Anastacia is scheduled to play live at Dublin's 3Olympia Theatre as part of her #NTK UK and Ireland tour. Ahead of these shows, she added an extra date at the Dublin venue due to high demand. Find out more on this story here.
