The Beach Boys co founder, Brian Wilson has died aged 82.
Wilson co founded the band, alongside cousin Mike Love and school friend Al Jardine. The band were known for numerous hits, including Surfin' USA, Good Vibrations, and California Girls. Their 1966 album, Pet Sounds is considered to be one of the greatest albums ever made.
The singer's death was confirmed in a statement released by his family.
"We are heartbroken to announce that our beloved father Brian Wilson has passed away", the statement read.
"We are at a loss for words right now. Please respect our privacy at this time as our family is grieving", they added. "We realise that we are sharing our grief with the world".
The statement was signed off with 'Love & Mercy', which refers to Wilson's 1988 track of the same name. It was also the title of a film about the musician, which starred John Cusack, Paul Giamatti and Elizabeth Banks in 2014.
