Billy Joel missed the Tribeca premiere of his documentary film due to his recent brain condition diagnosis, however fans have been assured that he "will be back".
This documentary, Billy Joel: And So It Goes, which will run for two parts, and directed by Jessica Levin and Susan Lacy, premiered on the opening night of the festival yesterday (June 4), which was shown at New York's Beacon Theatre.
This comes after Joel was diagnosed with Normal Pressure Hydrocephalus, an illness which causes a build up of fluid on the brain, forcing him to cancel all remaining tour dates for the foreseeable future.
Speaking about Joel's current absence, director Jessica Levin insisted that the singer "will be back".
“Billy wishes he were here tonight, and he asked us to convey his greetings to you all", she said. “He said ‘getting old sucks, but it’s still preferable to getting cremated".
Billy Joel: And So It Goes is to look at Joel's life and music, “exploring the love, loss and personal struggles that fuel his songwriting”, featuring access to previously unseen performances, personal photographs, home movies,. as well as one to one interviews.
The documentary will air on HBO at some stage this Summer.
Last month, Billy Joel's wife Alexis shared a positive update regarding the singer's health.
"We are so grateful for the wonderful care and swift diagnosis we received. Bill is beloved by so many, and to us, he is a father and husband who is at the center of our world. We are hopeful for his recovery. We look forward to seeing you all in the future", she said. More on this here.
