Anyone hoping to see NSYNC reunite for a milestone anniversary tour will have to put those plans on hold, with fresh comments from Joey Fatone suggesting a comeback is not on the horizon.

Speculation had been building that Lance Bass, JC Chasez, Joey Fatone and Chris Kirkpatrick were in early talks with touring promoters last autumn about staging reunion shows — potentially without Justin Timberlake.

However, those plans now appear to have stalled, with differing levels of interest within the group proving a major obstacle.

Speaking while promoting the US docuseries Boy Band Confidential, Fatone admitted that while the idea of a reunion is frequently discussed, there is currently no real momentum behind it. “People are always asking, ‘Is the group getting together? Is anything going to happen?’” he said.

“Do I see anything in the near future? No, I don’t. Would I want to do it? Yes. Some of the other guys, sure. Some of the other guys, maybe not.”

The comments are likely to disappoint fans who had been hoping the group might mark their anniversary with a return to the stage, especially given recent hints of renewed contact between all five members.

Fatone confirmed that the full lineup — including Justin Timberlake — recently reconnected on a group call, but played down expectations of anything more concrete emerging from those conversations. “All of us were there… talking, just talking to each other. ‘Hey, do we see anything?’ Or anything like that? It’s like … no.”

The hesitation appears to stem from a mix of personal and professional factors. Some members are focused on family life, with young children at home, while others are balancing solo projects and ongoing careers. Justin Timberlake, widely seen as the most successful solo act from the group, has also just completed a major tour and has reportedly been dealing with a bacterial infection, Lyme disease.

Fatone also acknowledged a broader concern shared within the group — whether a reunion would live up to expectations after more than two decades apart. “I know it sounds crazy, but we also have the doubt of, ‘what happens if this sucks? What happens if it ain’t good?’” he said, pointing to the pressure of recreating their early 2000s success and chemistry.

Despite this, he made clear that he personally remains open to the idea. “I’ve always pushed the issue,” he said. “I’ll be honest, I always say, ‘Hey, why not?’ because I think I’m ready. I don’t think everybody else is ready yet.”

Formed in 1995, NSYNC became one of the defining pop acts of the late 1990s and early 2000s, releasing four albums before going on hiatus in 2002. Their run of hits included Bye Bye Bye, It’s Gonna Be Me, Girlfriend and This I Promise You, helping to cement their place in pop music history.

While the group has never officially broken up, full reunions have been rare.

They famously performed together at the MTV VMAs in 2013, reunited again in 2018 for their Hollywood Walk of Fame ceremony, and have collaborated sporadically in recent years. That includes releasing Better Place for the 2023 animated film Trolls Band Together and recording Paradise for Justin Timberlake’s 2024 album Everything I Thought It Was.

They also marked a major milestone in 2025, celebrating 30 years since their formation with a nostalgic video featuring all five members reflecting on their journey. “30 years… feels like yesterday… and somehow a lifetime ago,” the group said, thanking fans for their continued support.

For now, however, any hopes of a full-scale reunion tour appear firmly on ice. While the bond between the bandmates remains intact, Fatone’s comments suggest that aligning schedules, priorities and expectations across all five members is proving far more difficult than fans might hope.

And until that changes, it seems the dream of seeing NSYNC back on stage together will remain just that — a dream.
