An unreleased duet between George Michael and Elton John could finally see the light of day more than 30 years after it was first recorded.
The late WHAM! star's former manager, Andros Georgiou, has revealed that the pair recorded vocals for a song called This Kind Of Love, but the track was never completed or released.
George Michael and Elton John shared a close friendship throughout their careers. They famously performed Don't Let the Sun Go Down on Me together at Live Aid in 1985 before releasing a studio version in 1991, which became a chart-topping hit.
Speaking to The Sun, Georgiou said he hopes to finish the long-lost recording and release it posthumously.
"Elton came in to do a song called ‘This Kind Of Love’," he said, adding that he also has an "incredible interview with Elton that no one has seen" which he is "saving for when the film gets snapped up by a streamer like Apple."
According to Georgiou, the song was a priority during the recording sessions because they knew Elton John would be contributing.
"I've got George singing the track and Elton singing the track, so the dream is to make another track," he said.
"I would have to ask Elton's permission to put the vocals together. I'm sure Elton would say yes because he was blown away by the song and was a huge supporter of George."
Georgiou also revealed that, in the unseen interview, Elton John speaks warmly about his late friend and says he would "literally do anything for George."
George Michael died on Christmas Day 2016 at the age of 53 from heart and liver disease.
Since his death, Elton John has regularly paid tribute to his friend, describing him as the "most generous man" and praising him as "one of the most brilliant songwriters this country's ever produced, and certainly one of the best vocalists ever."
He also honoured George Michael during his Glastonbury headline performance in 2023, which fell on what would have been the singer's 60th birthday.
Introducing a performance of Don't Let the Sun Go Down on Me, Elton John described him as "one of Britain's most fantastic singers, songwriters, and artists."
